how long do you keep your lights on everyday?

Nine hours.
I am up until at least midnight so that's when they turn off. I don't understand people who have their lights go off at 8 PM. They are looking at a dark tank for several hours before they go to bed. R

2-30 until 10-30, i have recently reduced light on times

why'd you reduce to 8 hours?

any specific reasons?

i just fely there was no need to keep them on any longer, i have hardly any algae problems and only have a few softies at present, also i am vertually finished with my updated sump and when it is finally re-fitted i will add some algae and then will probably increase light on times, it just works 8 hrs a day for me at present, my thoughts are if its working why change it, then i did, but at present no problems so i will keep at 8 hours and see, lets face it its easily changable if it needs to be so basically i see no problem with reduced hours at the moment:)

i have a 135G reef tank i run 3 - 250watt MH and 2 - 130watt 6 foot VHO's i start a 9 am with the VHO's and turn the MH's on 1 at a time till noon when i have everything on 1070 watts total on till 6pm at that point i start to turn off my MH's 1 at a time till I'm down to my VHO's by 8pm and at 9pm my VHO's turn off and my Moon lights come on. so i get 12hours per day of light. plus my moon light which is on all night. i also run 2 - 75watt 4 foot VHO's over the sump at night which comes on at 9pm.

I have 2-250W HQI's and 2-96W PC's. 8am to 8pm (12hrs) for the PC's and 10am to 6pm (8hrs) HQI's.

i run my new 2x250w MH from 10 to 4 every day. the lights are new and i am acclimating. i recently had a die off of my corals because i had too much light on them, so i cut it down to 6 hours, and will bump it up to 8 again over the course of the next few weeks.

I am not home all day, so I run mine from 5:30pm to 12:30am. This way they are on for about 30 minutes before I get home and I usually go to bed around 12:30 or 1:00. The room gets some ambient light during sunny hours, but I have no algae, so I leave it be.

This probably seems strange to some people to have my hours setup like this. However, I think it is strange for people to have the lights go off when they are still awake for hours afterwards and on all day while no one is home. All of my corals seem fine with this schedule.

I was thinking of shifting my lights to later in the day. Right now they come on at 12pm and off at 11pm. Electricity if cheaper at night.

Just have them turn off around when you normally go to bed and work backwards to figure out when you want to turn them on.

I'm experimenting with a staggered schedule, partially to keep tank temp lower and partially to support the multiple daily feedings my anthias require.

Right now:

7:30am - On
8:30am - Off

11:30am - On
2:30pm - Off

5:00pm - On
9:00pm - Off

It's doing a good job keeping the tank temp low, and the anthias are doing fine (well, except for the sickly-since-bought one that's been MIA for the past week... worm food more than likely).

I keep my 20K MH on 10 hours and my 12K MH on for 6 hours overlapping with the 20K. Trying to simulate lighting on the reef.

Just recently cut wayyyyyyyy back.

Now MH 6 Hours

Actinics anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on weather im online.
