how long do you run your skimmer

How long does everyone run their skimmer. do you run it 24/7 or do you just turn it on every once in a while?

I have a 75gal with 29gal sump/fuge
only 2 clowns, coral banded shrimp, and sepent star

how long should I be running my skimmer. I would like to use the pump for added flow when I am not skimming

I run 24/7 even tho my protein skimmer rated for 1000g while my tank is only 200g water volume.

I think it depends. Some skimmers take a while to start skimming, then skim like crazy. So shutting it down every day would be bad, since it may never get a chance to ramp up. I run mine 24/7, but I have a pretty highly stocked tank.

With your system and skimmer, I would do the same, 24/7.

run 24/7. turning off only lowers your O2 saturation and thats not good.

there are times when you dont want to skim though, i.e. when feeding. i will pull the cup off skimmer but let skimmer run...say before lights out ill pump the tank full of food (SPS, bb), pull cup, then in the morning put cup back on.
