How long for coralline to grow?

Always bring a towel
My tank has been running for about 2 months. I added about 40 lbs of live rock, that I cured for about 2 months in a brute can. The rock came from another reefer, who had it out of the water for about a month or so. There wasn't much if any life on the rocks when I started my cycle. My question is; How do I get coralline to grow? Do I need to seed it from the addition of more live rock? I'm kinda bored looking at basically white rock in my tank.

On a separate note, I have little white curls growing on the back of my tank, and in my sump. Are they baby filter feeders? Should I just leave them be?

Oh and one more thing. How do people get hitchhikers, good or bad in their tanks? I have been observing the sand bend, and as far as I can tell, and see, there is nothing living in there, or is there anything on the rock that I didn't put there. Will these things just sprout to life as the tank matures, or will they have to introduced?

I used some purple tech and a couple pieces of live rock from my LFS store. I have removed rock since though. They were starter pieces anyway.

funny thing about coraline once it starts you wish it would slow down!!!! mine stsrted shelving and sucks up loads of alk and ca.

best bet grab a few small pieces of live rock with good coating of coraline. put them in your tank and rub them together so you are grinding the coraline off. this will rapid seed your tank. make sure your ca and alk is good. few weeks you should notice new growth on the edges of light/dark areas.

for biodiversity i went to a trusted lfs and grabbed a hand full of the oldest sand bed that was active and a handful of fine rubble/sand from there live rock tank.

that added worms and copepods galore. Grabbing a handful of chateo or calurepa from a established tank also adds to the variety. i wouldnt go looking for hitchhikers on live rock per se as you will end up with just as many pests as good stuff

Purple up and all that stuff is basically just alkalinity. Just keep your alk and calcium at the right levels and it will grow! Add a rock that has it growing to help seed it. You can also scrape coraline from a friend's tank and add it in yours that will help as well

I run Zeovit, so adding something like purple tech probably wouldn't work. I'm going to stop by the LFS on my way home from work and pick up a few pieces of lr with some coralline, and seed it that way.

I liked the coraline in my first tank. Then it started coating the glass, and had to be constantly scraped off. My current tank I'm hoping stays mostly coraline free.

Took me almost a year to start getting it to grow.
Gotta go through all the bad algae cycles first, get your parameters right, keep it consistent.

This is kind of a loaded question IMO. I set up a 10 gallon nano a couple years ago and within the first 6 months this is what I got. I used tap water too btw... Go figure...

I wasn't dosing anything at the time either, just using Coralife salt. The rocks were purchased at various LFS in the area.

You should have asked when you stopped by. If the LFS doesn't work out, let me know.

This question reminds me of parenting.

When your kids are young, you can't wait for them to start talking.

When they start talking, you would give anything for 10 seconds of quiet.

Thanks, Jessie. I stopped at AquaWorld on my way home from work and picked up a 2 lbs of rubble, so I'm good. Thanks again.

BTW, I just installed that canister this evening.
