How long for new male perc in QT before adding to display

Hi:

The male of my pair of true percs jumped to his death about 6 months ago. I recently purchased a juvenile replacement that's approximalely 1" long. The new fish came from a tank of percs, so I'm pretty sure it's not sexed at this time. It's a tank raised fish.

The fish is in QT now, has been there about 2 weeks. I'm wondering how long he should remain in QT before I transfer to the display tank with the female?

Normally I'd leave a fish in QT for at least a month to 6 weeks, but I'm concerned about leaving this fish alone and winding up with another female. I don't know how long this takes and was looking for some guidance. The fish is doing well - eating like a pig, no signs of illness or distress.

Thanks - BC

I would keep him in there for 4 weeks at a very low SG level. I would slowly lower the SG over a weeks time to something very low and after you get to that point I would keep him in there for 4 weeks. It is what I do to fish. Then I slowing bring up the SG back up to whats in my display tank in a weeks time.
I do not trust Fish Stores they have all kind of crap in their tanks. Parasites can not live in a very low SG enviorment.
Then I would throw all that Q-Tank water.
THOSE NASTIE LITTLE FISH STORES :P

Thanks Sharrison. You don't think keeping the clown this long on it's own is going to begin the transition to a female? I'm not sure how long this takes, but I'm sort of assuming it won't happen that quick.
