How long has your goby gone missing for?

I bought a yellow diamond goby about 3 months ago. After spending a month in my QT tank, I put him in my DT where he went right to work cleaning my sand bed up pretty good. Then after about 2 weeks, I found him one day, down in my sump. So I put him back up in my DT and placed a piece of mesh across my overflow to keep him from taking another ride down to the sump.
Well, ever since then, he stopped sifting my sand bed and would just lay around the tank all day. At night, I would see him swimming all around the top portion of the water column. And I mean for hours he would do this. Well, after about 3 days of this behavior he went missing and I have not seen him in about 2 weeks now. I've checked all over my sump for him and even in the overflow to make sure he was not stuck in there. I also have a tight fitting canopy so there is no chance of him jumping out. Although I have looked all over the floor too....lol.
Now I'm starting to wonder if I should just give up on him and get another one or wait a little longer. What do you guy's think?
And, has anybody else had a similar case of a missing goby for this long?

I have a small goby, honestly don't know what kind. I want to say that it was not seen for about 3 months. Then it popped out for a couple days, and have not seen it for the past 3 weeks. :)

I have a 75 gallon bow front and I dont my shrimp, emerald crab, and YWG for a few days then all of sudden they show up again.. if you have a lot of live rock like I do there is so many place for them to hide and you wont see them... A buddy of mine said his YWG goes missing for at least a month at a time.. So I would say give it some time..

Yes, I do have a lot of live rock with plenty of places to hide in. I just didn't know if they would honker down and not be seen for this long, with-out being noticed. When I had him in my QT, every time I would put food in, he would come out of a PVC elbow I had in there and eat. But come to think of it now, I don't recall ever seeing him eat prepared food in my DT. He just did a lot of sifting...lol.

Thanks ....I will wait and see if he shows up.

I've had mine for a couple months at least now. I thought several times he just had to be dead, but then he would come out for just the briefest moment to let me know he was still alive. He wouldn't even come out during feeding time. But now, ever since I got another goby (diamond watchman), 'cause I thought my yellow was dead, lol, he comes out all the time. They kinda hang out together now. :)

Honestly, I would say that he is probably gone. I bought one before I knew how hard they are to keep. They generally deplete your sandbed of nutrients and critters (that is what they eat/live off of) and then starve to death. Mine would eat prepared foods pretty well, but still starved (they have a really high metabolism). This goby is pretty active and not one to hide out for extended periods of time.....

I lost a TINY yellow clown a few weeks ago.. no sign of him at all. I dont know if he was eaten or what. Drives you crazy, right?! The tank is only a innovative 16g, so I figure I would have seen him by now.

I had a YWG that went missing for almost two months. Found him one day in the rear chambers of a AIO tank looking up at me totally emaciated. I put him in my gentle fuge and fed him back to health. Been good in my DT ever since and rewarded his bravery with a nice pistol buddy! Strong little fish!

I have a nano goby that I see only every 2 weeks or so but as yours is a sand sifter I would have thought there would be some sign. Sorry bud, I think he's a goner.
