how long to keep the lights on :)

I have a 40g breeder thats 36x18x18, and a 250w 20000k MH how long should I leave the light on a day? I have a couple zoas and a frogspawn

for years i ran mine for 10 hours a day,but due to the economy i have cut back to about 3 hours a day with no negitive effect

i usually do 6 hours in the winter, and 4 hours in the summer...in part because I don't run a chiller

I have never noticed any problems compared to when I ran 8 to 10 hours a day. Saves electricity and I was not able to view the tank that whole time anyways.

On my new tank I am going to try something else...It has 2 VHO's and 3 MH's and I am going to try and run two MH in the morning (well early afternoon, still gonna keep the total around 6 houts), three in the afternoon, two in the evening, and then turn on the vho's and off the MH's for the last hour of the night.

I run my MH 8 hours a day, I would do six but I don't use actinic supplementation so the extra 2 hours is for me

Oh, and it doesn't have to be lights on in the morning and off in the evening. I work during the day so I have my lights come on a 4 and go off at 12 so I can enjoy my tank while i'm home.
