how long to leave new fish in qt

I have a new fridmani psuedochromis. I put it directly into qt at regular salinity. Watching her carefully, no signs of anything for a week now.

Does anyone do hyposalinity as a prevention? Seems if they have ich and you don't know it, it would shorten the time in qt. Otherwise you're waiting for ich to show up, and then you start the hypo, and then you're waiting another 4 weeks.

One of my fish I put directly into hypo qt for 4 weeks when I got her because of a spot. This one doesn't have any visible signs.

Thanks for advice.

Good quarantine guidance is provided in this article:
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-10/sp/feature/index.htm

I recommend prophylactic treatment only for two kinds of fishes:
Tangs (I do a copper treatment for both Marine Ich and Marine Velvet which they are prone to have); and
Anemonefishes (treat for Brooklynella even if they don't look like they have it).

Other than the above, treat only when the fish shows signs of a problem.

The above article recommends a month in quarantine, but I prefer and use 6 weeks in quarantine myself, before I release a fish into the main display. If nothing shows up in 6 weeks, the fish is good to go! :D
