How long without food?

Zach Vs Ponies

I bought a purple tang from diver's den last week, and it arrived on Saturday (It shipped on Friday, I requested Saturday delivery). It arrived with ich, but I was stupid and decided to just place it directly into my display tank.

Anyways, I removed it into quarantine last night (I would have done earlier but I was kind of hoping to get him eating in the DT first). I came home from school today to find some of the nori I put in there floating around (I'm thinking he may have tried to snag some pieces?)

Anyways, assuming that he hasn't eaten since last Friday, how much longer do you think he can go without food? Any ideas on what I can try feeding?

Thanks for any help.

(Ps: I'm treating with hyposalinity. I don't know why this has any significance but I don't want people thinking I just put him in quarantine for the kicks and giggles and am doing nothing for him)

Try a variety of foods, including mysis shrimp, Rods, brine shrimpand veggie flakes. Also, rubberband the nori to a piece of rock and put it in the tank.

Your display tank also may have ich now and you are going to have to deal with that as well as with the tang.

Good luck.

+1 to the two posts above. Your DT now has ich and you have to pull ALL of the fish into QT for treatment and leave the DT fallow for 10 weeks.

Or was the purple the first fish in the DT?

Well, good news. I was walking down the hallway and happened to peek in my fish tank room to catch him nibbling on the seaweed I put on the clip last evening. I am in the process of melting mysis for my seahorses, and I'm going to pull some out for him to see if he will eat them as well.

I'm going to try to put a towel up in front of my tank. To be honest, I think one of his main issues is me standing in front of the tank while I feed.

You need to treat the tang in your QT, and (as sandwi54 says) let your DT set without fish for 10 weeks. Also, the purple tang should be the last fish into your tank and not the first as it may beat on fish added to the tank once it establishes its territories.

To answer your question, I had an angelfish go 14 days without eating and died. It probably had flukes too that I didnt treat.

2 more angelfish, one went 13 days and another went 10 days without eating.
