how long?

i bought my achillies tang almost 2 months ago.. he is doing great.. eating, swimming and doing all the things that fishes should and like to do....

i know how delicate these fish are.. i keep thinking that i will wake up and he will be stuck to a powerhead for some reason i cant figure out.... i guess my question is how long before you are completely comfortable that a fish is going to make it and survive provided nothing drastic happens? (etc tank crash, ick outbreak cause you dont QT, so on and so on.)

If the fish is eating before introduced to the DT I would say 2 weeks because by this time you'll be able to tell whether the fish can handle itself in the community environment. If it's a very delicate/shy fish then at least 2-3 month before I get comfortable.

First off, congrats on such a beautiful species. Truly one of my all time fav Tangs...or fish for that matter!

IME, I owned an Achilles in the past that was approx. 5-6". These Tangs are powerful swimmers so I wasnt too concerned about it being sucked by a powerhead or overflow, but more concerned about eating, and fighting off (or avoiding) ich or any other parasite.

Seems like youve conquered half already! Just make sure your temp and params are stable. I would refrain from adding any new fish to the system for awhile, as well!

yeah i am about to make a 7 month deployment and i dont plan to add anything or have anyone else add anything till jan of next year... gives me plenty of time to do some research!!
