how often does an opportunity like this roll along?

it was saturday evening and i was talking to my friend about big tanks. she mentioned one of her friends was having to 'give away' his large acrylic show tank due to his house being remodeled and can not be a part of it anymore.

anyway, an incredibly good friend and local reefer, reefmeister2 came with me to help move it.

about 6 hours later of removing rock, water, fish, corals, equipment and bulkheads...we loaded it (with great difficulty) onto a flatbed truck along with its custom stand, facing and canopy.

the stand is custom tubular steel while the tank has a an incredible U bend in the middle. the acrylic is about 3/4" thick.

it needs a really good cleaning, removal of the live rock acrylic platform, polish, new wood support and reface the cabinetry.

one side is 80 inches long and the other is 60 inches long and the total height is 36 inches.

note the coke can on top for size relation.

thanks! :)

it is too tall for a reef set up...believe me...trying to externally maintain the bottom of the tank is impossible when a tank depth is 36".

i am thinking about making it into an arowana display but most likely a sw fish only or a fw planted discus tank as it is too beautiful of a display to use on one arowana fish.

whats all that acrylic/ ladder stuff inside the tank?

it was used to stack live rock on...what it also did was make it a nightmare to scoop out the sand that was lodged in there!

what are your thoughts on making it a BB reef? It's a great looking tank, and being a corner wave front gives it such a unique look. EXCELLENT SCORE!! Keep us updated with pics as you clean it up.

You jammy git! Oh wow, that is the most fantastic tank I have ever seen..

You really could do a fantastic barebottom with that. What about if you got a closed loop to pump out from behind the rack to keep detritus from gathering back there.

That is just fantastic :)

Nice Score Ben, you lucky dog!

I vote for a FOWLR, put some big angels and triggers in there.

Let me know if you need help setting it up.

Ben,
Your right, 36" is a B1tch to keep clean. :D But it looks so good having that much height on the system. You can grow nice tall colonies and STILL have room for the fish to wim on top. ;)

Good score. I say be different :D go with a full blown reef. I am. ;)

man....some guys have all teh luck!! congrats to you!

I'd go for a FOWLR and get a paid or crosshatch triggers, some angels and a few tangs :D

thanks guys! :)

it was the right place at the right time and a lot of HARD work on reefmeister2 and myself (mostly reefmeister2!!!) taking out the rock, catching the fish, shrimps etc, and esp scooping out the sand!

carrying the thing to the flatbed truck gave a new meaning to the word &#*&^@%@!!! ;)

believe it or not...my wife loves the tank with her only concern is where the monster is going to be placed aesthetically!!!

full blown bb reef with starboard is 'very' tempting indeed!

What happened to all the livestock that was in it?

we transferred everything transferred to holding tanks.

approximate gallonage i am guesstimating is about 390g.

That would look killer in wall. I don't know a circular saw from a hole in the ground so I assume it would be tuff work to get that done.

I THINK IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH TROUBLE FOR YOU....
I AM VOLUNTEERING TO TAKE IT OFF YOUR HANDS.

HAHAHAHA

BEAUTIFUL LOOKING TANK....IF YOU DONT PLAN TO MOVE ANY TIME SOON....FULL BLOWN REEF
