How many Astreas is too many?

It seems that the only snails that will try to clean my tank are Astreas. I have a 220 and dont want to add too many but want to have enough

Depending on how much rockwork you have, a dozen of the one-inchers won't be too many, and a couple dozen probably wouldn't be too many...unless your tanks is super clean and algae free, of course.

I wouldn't say it is super clean but it isn't nasty either. I have only had this tank setup wince the middle of May.

where is the best place to buy Astrea snails from?

Here is what was suggested to me... Get a small group (say 8-12) let them roam your tank for 2-3 weeks and note if they make a huge impact of not... If you feel you need more but 5-6 more and repeat until you feel your snails and algae growth have found a happy medium!

Having the least amount of "janitors" is really what you want IMO.. If one can't do it, add two, but there is a point where something is wrong. ( 3 many nutrients )
