How many firefish can I keep?

It depends on the species. There are species of brittle stars that are common hitchhikers on live rock that never get bigger than 1", and there are species that can get to be a foot or more across.

Generally, you should be good with whichever serpent or brittle star that you choose, with the one exception of a green serpent star, which can get very large, and kill and eat smaller fish in a reef tank.

In my experience, about the four/five month mark, multiples become one. Unless you have a bonded pair.

How big do brittle stars get? What about the Harlequin starfish?
I've had my 2 for very close to 2 years now and allthough they have grown a good bit they do not seem the least bit cramped in my 24x24 30gal DT. Do not know how much larger they will get but at this very moment I'm smack dab in the middle of setting up a new 80 gal DT

This has been my experience as well and this was back when I was running my 210 gal DT so I had plenty of room for them.

Only one Firefish to be safe?
Would be your best bet especially when considering your tank dimensions
