how many fish do you guys have in your 120g?

Currently 8 in my 120...4 green chromis, one orchid dottyback, one black sailfin blenny and a pair of B&W clowns. Soon will be adding a few more, possibly a pair of Genicanthus angelfish (depends on budget on which type), rabbitfish of some sort and a goby of some sort. That will probably be it.

Keith

5 for me.

Copper Banded Buttterfly
Melanarus Wrasse
Psuedo
Bi-color Bleeny
Candycane Hogfish

I'm in the market for a new addition.

Though mine is a little larger, around 170 G, this gives an impression of what's possible:

2 x Zebrasoma flavescens - yellow tang
2 x Z. gemmatum - gem tang
1 x Centropyge loricula - flame angel
1 x Paracentropyge multifasciata - multibarred angelfish
2 x Pygoplites diacanthus - regal angel
1 x Biochoerus cosmetus - wrasse
1 x Cirrhilabrus rosefascia - wrasse
1 x Pseudocheilinus ocellatus - mystery wrasse
2 x Amphiprion ocellaris - clownfish
2 x Holanthias borbonius - blotched anthias
1 x Gramma loreto - Royal Gramma
2 x Liopropoma carmabi - candy basslet
2 x Acreichthys tomentosus - seagrass filefish
1 x Salarias fasciatus - Henk (THE Dutch name for them ;))
1 x Nemateleotris magnifica - firefish
3 x Fowleria sp. - small red fishes
11 x Apogon leptacanthus - blue eye cardinal
1 x Opistognathus aurifrons - Jack in the Box

Part of the trick isn't only to pay attention to the water quality (export by corals and skimmer, for example) but also to the fishes' behaviour: try to avoid combining fishes which occupy the same niches. In my experience, this helps a lot!

It sounds crowded, but because of the above, it's not, see the picture :)

Wow! That's an amazing stock list you have there! It makes me want to add a school of cardinals to my reef.

Tanu...any issues with the Regal's? Did you get them as a "pair" or just try to put two together? I forgot to mention in my posting that I want to get the blue eye cardinals as well (guess...but my plans certainly aren't anywhere close to finalized yet).

Keith, I have the biggest one (female, I think) for about 8 years now, in 2005 Charles Delbeek visited the Netherlands (and my tank :)), I told him I contemplated the idea of adding another... He said it would be possible, so I bought a very tiny one (about 1 "). This second regal had to hide for months, because of attacks by the first regal and by a cherub angel (C. argi). When I removed the C. argi, the new one came out more often. Now, the difference in size is only minor. The regals mate almost daily and I see them releasing gametes several times a week :) The biggest regal is a Red Sea one, the other one probably comes from the Maldives.

IFbettas and ARgi: the blue eyes are nice, but very hard to get to eat in the beginning. Actually, they have to learn it from fish with a comparable diet, green chromis are nice, for example. As they only live for a few years, I have to add some new ones every now and then. Because these new ones can learn from the others what food is like in captivity, I've never had any issues with that. When I bought my first group, I did have some difficulties though. I think this is part of the reason why many hobbyists claim that these fish are hard to adapt to captivity... As soon as they eat, it is a nice and hardy addition to a reef tank :)

Tanu, if you don't mind me asking, what are the dimensions of your reef? Also, do the blue eye cardinals breed in your tank?

IFbetta's, the tank is 51 long, 31 wide and 28 high (130 x 80 x 70 cm's) :)

They do breed, but I've never managed (or tried) to raise the offspring...

1 Achilles Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 Scopas Tang
2 Mated False Percula Clowns
1 Yellow-Flanked Fairy Wrasse
1 Yellow Watchman Goby
1 Mandarin Goby

Here is my list 120g - 6 feet long; I have 2 skimmers and do water change every 2 weeks

1 Squarespot (Male)
1 Squarespot (Female)
1 Tang - Achilles
1 Tang - Powder Blue
1 Tang - Naso (Blonde)
3 small Tang - Yellow
1 Tang - White Freckled
1 Mystery Wrasse
1 Hooded Fairy Wrasse male
1 Golden Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse
1 Hawaii Flame Wrasse male
1 Hawaii Flame Wrasse female
1 Cleaner Wrasse

Here's my list

4x Sharknose Goby
3x Carberryi Anthias
3x Diadem Anthias - parvirostris
2x Leopard Wrasse - bipartitus
2x C. kleinni
2x Pink Streaked Wrasse
1x C. falcula
1x McCoskers Flasher wrasse
1x Ornate wrasse - ornatissimus
1x Ecsenius stigmatura
1x Stonogobiops yasha

As stated above they all occupy different zones in the aquarium, and all are relatively small compared to Tangs for instance. The Butterflies will get a little bigger than the current 2-3" but not much, as for the others I doubt they will get bigger at all. I think I've reached the limit but all params have been stable during the additions of the fish.

I've read of some guys in Germany with at least 60 little gobies in a 120 without any problems.
