how many gallons will a bucket of reef crystals make mixed at 1026?
Something is VERY wrong...I would guess your hydrometer!I bought a box of instant ocean. The box says 200 gallons, 4 bags per box. In 65 gallons of RO/DI, one bag gets me to 1.027... I may have had some residual in my garbage can which caused the elevated salinity +.001

Sorry, but even if you 'coated' the entire bin with salt...it couldn't make an extra 20g of 1.026 water!...it had to be closer to 45g of water with 1 bag of IO salt.I just had my water salinity tested a few days ago at ARC I am at 1.026 and all parameters are sound. I just think I had some extra salt water in the bottom of the bin which upped my salinity.
so, you're saying there was salt on the 'grassy knoll' ?Ha well just like the murder of JFK, we will never know the truth about how much water was in the bucket to start with.
I go through 100's of those 200 gallon boxes of salt a year. When making large batches of water up I use the same containers and start with the same amount of water and use the contents of the same number of bags of salt each time. You'd be amazed how varied the salt levels in the resulting water are from batch to batch, measured using a refractometer. +/- .005 or more sometimes.

I have personally not used RC salt in quite some time, but looking to streamline my water making. Need to be a bit more efficient. How much water do you make at one time? What size containers?
