How many of you are not using skimmers?

Just curious,,, I hardly ever turn mine on ,maybe once a month for a couple of days.I've been doing that for about 2yrs now and everything is always growing ,no fish are dieing with the exception of my snails crawling out,,lol.I'm just broke and am thinking about selling my skimmer.Just wanted to get some opinions.

What type of reef are you running? SPS, LPS or softies.

I would have no problem running a softy tank with a low-med bioload without a skimmer. SPS on the other hand, I think would be trouble brewing down the line.

Just curious why, if you have a skimmer, you aren't running it? Aside from the skimmer, they do wonders to increase the dissolved O2.

i run softies and some lps and run my skimmer almost24/7. its a hang on back model and i unplugg it for 1/2 hour when i feed. i think it takes a lot of junk out and helps keep things crystal clear and clean

I have a 220gal set-up,fully loaded with fish and mostly softies.I also have a 100gal fuge with a crap load of colurpa that grows like crazy.Yeah I kinde of jumped the gun with my thoughts of selling it(layed-off).It would suck if I would need it down the line and not have one .I think if my tank would crash I would commit suicide.

Honestly besides 20% water changes once every month or two,my fuge is full of colurpa ,growing like crazy.I think the reason my tank is doing so well is because of the 100gal fuge.Hey I dont get into to much chemistry or testing and things just work some how.The one thing that I do is cut more than half of the colurpa every month and get rid of it to make room for the other half to grow. Its been over a dacade now and its still holding its own,,lol

I too have a large fuge with chaeto growing like crazy, I cut back 75% every 4-6 weeks and do monthly water changes. This works for me

No skimmer here. Chaeto in the sump and a large bag of carbon that my drain hose pours on. Only have 4 small fish and don't really feed too heavy, maybe once a day to every three days. Fish are happy and have bellies full. It seems they do a lot of foraging and mainly live off the reef. Also do water changes 1-2 times a month.

I am not using a skimmer but i use a magnum 350 as a filter. I plan on using one in the future when i can buy one for a cheap price.
