How many of you guys have a canopy on your tanks?

I built a nice one and now if I close it I can't keep the temp below 84. I have 3 fans on it right now? (they are on sale) the house temp is 75 or so. If I leave the canopy open then I can keep it cool. does everyone just not have a canopy, or have a chiller, or keep there house at like 60? I am trying to save money on electricity and enjoy they great weather so I haven't been using the AC for a few weeks.

If you have a sump, take a floor fan and point it into your sump area. Now, you will have a greater rate of evaporation but it should keep you water temp down. Thats what I did when I had a canopy.

I am hoping my new system will not have that problem. I am building a canopy for it now, and will be running 2 175w, and 1 250w MH. I am leaving the back of the canopy open, and putting two fans in the top of it sucking out. My sump is also in my basement which stays cool, so hopefully, I will not need a chiller. A fan blowing across the surface will definatley help, as Delong20 suggested.

wondering how tall is your canopy also is it completely enclosed i have one on my 75 gal it was running a little warm then switched to koralia3
and it dropped by 3 degrees just by doing that have no chiller the back of my canopy is open

My canopy is open on the back and top. it is around 24 inches tall. Right now I have a large fan blowing across the top of my tank and a small fan blowing across my sump. I think I will try to switch them around.

I've never had a canopy for my marine tanks.
I love the bid's eye view look of my tank.
... of course, I've lost more than a handful of firefish, sixline wrasses, blennies, and even clownfish to the carpet surfing craze in my years in the saltwater hobby!

You know what is funny.... I moved the fans arround and have them pointing directly at the water instead of accross the water and the tank is staying at 80 even when the 500 watts of mh are on. That is crazy.

I would agree with soupysteve. Love the birds eye view! :) I have 800 watts, about six inches from the water, and a fan blowing on the the water. I get a lot more evaporation but my temps stay @ 77-78!

I have a canopy, but leave the lid open, due to temps climbing too high when closed, but I am going to try the fan on the sump suggestion, and see what that does for me.
