I haven't but know that I should be, especially with more delicate fish. I plan to setup a nice little QT this spring with just an airstone, HOB, heater and simple decor. I really think it's worth it and can be done on a tight budget as well!

Rock Anemone:D

I didn't at first, but learned very quickly after loosing a pair of clowns. Now all fish go through QT. The investment in the QT tank is worth the aggravation saved.

Also, the QT tank has served other purposes as well - I've used it to hold rock and also to brew up a batch of brine (in a 2l bottle sitting in the QT tank).

I don't. IMO, when I get a 4" tank for my 120g, I don't want to put him in a 10g QT (or even a 20g QT). Too much stress for the fish.

i QT mine for about 15 min on the way home from the LFS :D. i know its not good not to QT and i recommend using a QT. i just never set one up. now im only looking to add 1 more small fish if any, so i dont see the point. but if i were to add something bought online, yes i would QT it. but when i go to the LFS and pick out a fish. i will take the time to study the fish i want for 10mins+. there are not to many diseases that cant be picked up on just by looking at the fish.

Always Quaratine, when I first start saltwater, I bought a nice keyhole tang was at my lfs for 2 months look very healthy after 2 days in my display tank it was covered with ICH. Took the tang out quaratine for 6 weeks with coppersafe and back in the display and its been 2 years no problems!
Now I have alot of money invested in fishes in my display Tank why play Russian Roulette!!!!

i have six fish in my tank and i qt 5 of them each for 6 weeks. on my 6th and final fish I didnt. now iam paying the price, because i have ick now and cant catch the fish to qt him. my advise is to qt all fish no matter how lucky you have been in the past!!!

The key word for me here is, "all". I agree that QT us safer, but I still won't necessarily do it in all cases.

I do!

All those that don't, please post when your tank is diseased with ich, velvet, FW. Thanks, Jeff

Heres my 36 qt. I have added more pvc pipe since this picture.

I think everyone knows they should. And I also know that probably about 80% of us buy fish impulsively. (tell the truth). And I can only speak for myself but the last thing I want to do is hide my new addition in some back room small tank. I wanna see that sumb*tch in the display.

Whether or not I QT a fish depends on the type of fish and where I purchase it. I work at a LFS - when we get fish in, they're treated for disease if necessary and fed high-quality foods soaked in vitamins. If I've watched a fish do well in our system for weeks I tend not to give it another QT period when I get it home. If, on the other hand, I'm buying from a store where I don't know much about how a fish has been treated, I would be more likely to quarantine it at home. I really think that for some fish it's a tossup - do I want to stress out a delicate fish by putting it into a tiny QT, or put it into a stable reef/FOWLR where it will feel less stress and be less likely to break out with disease?
FWIW, I've never had an outbreak of ich, lymphocystis, or velvet in any of my SW tanks - the only diseased fish I've had succumbed to bacterial infections, both as a result of being harassed and bitten by my (since traded in) evil maroon clown. Then again, it's only been about a year :)

That's not how QT works. If you have a big fish, you use a big QT. :)

I always QT. The risk of not doing it isn't worth it to me.

Right now, the QT isn't setup so the fish goes straight into the display. I will set up the QT soon and use it, especially as my fish collection grows more than the measly 4 I have now.
