How many Wrasses

Need opinions on how many I can keep in a 75g with 40 breeder sump?....running a Eshopps PSK-200....This will be a Wrasses only tank with the exception of a pair of ORA Naked clowns.

They will be flasher and fairy wrasses.....I have been reading and researching and have found that some have kept up to 30 in a tank of this size.....I do not want that many I was thinking along the lines of 10-15.....from what I have read I will not have to many problems just need to watch for aggression and get compatible ones....I want to provide a happy place for them to live not make them suffer for my enjoyment.

Some wrasses get very big. I would recommend you stay away from Mystery Wrasse. They get large and aggressive.

He said flasher and fairy wrasses. I would persnonally stay away from the larger fairy wrasses like the Scott's Fairy because they are more on the aggressive side and probably wouldn't play extremely nice with your flasher wrasses.

5 would be a good number a few more or less depending on size. I've never heard of anyone keeping 30 wrasses in a 75g. Seems like way too many

Not sure if this logic works in SW, especially reefs, but in FW people with african cichlids would often overstock to reduce aggression. That may be what the person with 30 wrasses in a 75 was attempting to do. I wouldn't try it because it would probably have a huge impact on filtration. Your nitrates and phosphates may shoot through the roof feeding all those fish depending on how your set up.

That's what I use to do with my tangynikan tank but than I had a crash and the rest is history saltwater was callin me from there

It can be done, but is tough to pull off. Need to make sure you have a large QT system to handle multiple wrasses at once(skipping QT in an overstocked tank is even a bigger no no imo), peaceful enough species that one doesn't just go crazy killing stuff, need very oversized filtration to handle the load and keep water quality up, feed a ton(more filtration), and put a lot of fish in at once so newbies don't get picked on. On top of that you need a lot to go right to keep everyone healthy and happy for a long time.

i have a 75 with a yellowfin flasher, Mccosker's flasher, Lubbocks fairy, yellow flanked fairy, revelvet fairy, and 2 occy clowns. they have been together for about a month now and they seem ok with each other. once in a while one will chace another but no one really chases farther than 10". not sure if you can add more but thought this might give you an idea.
