how much 2 part are you dosing?

Just curious as to how much 2 part you guys are dosing? Also, how big is your system?

For me, I have a 100g system and I dose 320ml of alk and calcium to keep my alk at 145ppm and calcium at 450ppm.

wow, you are dosing a lot, did you have all sps packed up in the tank?

i have total 40G volume with about 10 frags and 10 small colony sps. I dose 50ml BRS two parts a day. I already think i dose too much, the return pump needs to be cleaned every month.

15ml each daily with kent marine tech cb and marine magic doaser, 36" 55 gallon tank with 20g sump about 60g total water volume (rock and sand factord in). mostly sps. alk stays at 9.6 and cal stays at 430 checked with hanna checkers.

BTW did any 1 notice this thread was nearly 2 years old :)

Don't dose calcium just alk ( randys recipe)and I'm at 110ml a day. 250 gallon system mostly softies and tank is been running for 7 months

Mixed reef with few sps colonies and 5-6 small sps frags 90g with 55 sump. I use tropic Marin pro and alk is low in that salt. I dose 20ml per day Alk. Of baking soda ash. Calcium stays at 420 with weekly changes.

I read the recommendation for the dosage is 1ml/gallon for sps tank. U guys are way low than that. How can I tell if I am overdosing or not?

I dont think there should be a recommended dosage based on size. You should be dosing at whatever keeps your levels stable. Its not really about water volume, its about how much your corals are consuming.

you test. If you see a pattern of increase in alk and calc then you are dosing to much if you see a pattern of decrease you aren't dosing enough. The key is to test around the same time every time (given that you are using an automated doser and your lights are on timers). Try not to make changes after a single test (unless something drastic is going on) or you will end up chasing your tale. If I see my alk/calc is becoming unstable for any reason then I will normally do 2-3 tests a few days apart around the same time of day. If I see it trending one way or the other after looking at the series of result I will adjust it.

I dose around 225ml a day (just had to bump it)

I dose 60ml of Alk and 15ml of Calcium daily. I have 3 small colony, 4 one inch sized frags and a frogspawn. My alk is at 8.2-8.5 and Calcium at 440ppm.

You do not dose anything for a week while observing Ca and KH consumption. Take several readings over a seven day period, and then use this calculator to work out the Ca and alk amounts to dose.

A word of caution: you need to be very careful when alkalinity drops below 7 dKH. If you have high nutrients in your water column, then your SPS corals may start stripping. For this reason, it is better if the initial alkalinity reading is quite high, e.g. 9.6 dKH, before you start your experiment.

comparing with you guys, my tank is definitely overdosed, 50ml for total 40g with half sps half zoas. I do see the precipitant at heater and pumps. How should I improve that? I dose them on top of the baffle area of the 10g sump. any suggestion?

If your levels are remaining steady you are not overdosing. Plain and simple.

Every tank is different, comparing dosing amounts is irrelevant really. Different corals, different uptake, different growth rates, different brands at different concentrations. Oh, and amount of coraline algae too, that stuff can suck up the cal/alk.

One thing, if you believe you are using too much 2 part, check your magnesium. Low magnesium makes it difficult for alk/cal to remain in solution, you may be getting precipitate and burning through the 2 part that way.
