So we have finally come to the conclusion that we are going to remove all remaining fish from the my clients system and disinfect the system. I have enlisted multiple professionals and disease experts over the last 3 months and we still haven't figured out what the pathogen is. We have even had specimens evaluated at an aquatic animal health lab and they can't narrow it down. Multiple treatments of chloroquine phosphate, formalin, prazi, and enrofloxacin and still losing fish. I have an anesthetic coming in in a few days to dose the system and get the remaining fish out. It is a 6000 gallon octagon with a large coral insert that makes for a lot of great places for fish to elude capture. There are about 80 or so fish left, 50 or so large clowns and a mixture of larger tangs and angels. I will house them in their own system until we can eradicate whatever they have or at least figure it out.
I am going to use bleach to disinfect the system but I don't know how much I need to use and for his long. Draining the system and letting it dry is not really an option here. I will just wipe out everything and then restart.it with live bacterial cultures from ATMs water quality division.
Anyone have an idea how much to use or have experience with disinfecting a system this size?
