hey, i have 2 h. erectus and 2 h. kelloggi SH's in a 29g. my question is that i cant really get them to eat frozen so im sticking with live brine, but how much should i feed them, they seem like they will eat as much as i put in there even if it is a rediculus ammount..is there a limit that i should feed? Thanks for the help in advance!

Try Sach's since they have live mysis and amphipods. You might be able to get them to eat frozen mysis after feeding live.

As stated above, you need to get them eating nutritious food asap. They can starve on a diet of brine alone, and even enriched brine doesn't provide enough to sustain them.

I fed my WC reidi seahorse who never took to frozen food a diet of live fresh water ghost shrimp for the 5.5 years I had him. All seemed well.

Where did you get your horses? It is more then likely with Kellogi that they will accept frozen, but it really does depend a lot on the source so I'll reserve comment for now.

You have brine shrimp in there but after 2 hours,it loses its's enrichment. Feed enriched brine shrimp 2-3x per day. They eat alot! It's kind of an art. Siphon daily.

now, i really dont know what to believe, reefnut, i read on here that live brine are ok, but frozen are a bad idea. hmm..

fishgrrl, i think ill have to try that, thanks!

pledo, the live ghosts are too expensive around here to feed all the time, thanks for the info though...also, my h. kelloggi do eat the frozen i found out, i guess they were just stilll getting used to the tank when i wrote that

I really disagree with this. They need a much better diet than just enriched brine shrimp, as has already been advised by others.

Seahorses need variety in their diet and brine shrimp alone is not a healthy diet.
PE Mysis, Hikari, ghost shrimp and many other smaller live and frozen goodies can and should be offered.

Many people believe that seahorses only eat live brine shrimp and that is simply not accurate and in fact is harmful.

Whomever posted what you read was incorrect and/or misinformed. Live Brine shrimp is NOT a good long-term diet for seahorses, even enriched. Enriched live mysid shrimp and ghost shrimp are fine... but NOT brine.

BBS is an appropriate diet for dwraf seahorses. Maybe that was the source of confusion.

Brine shrimp does not make an adaquete food for larger specis because they have a hard time breaking them down in there digestive system to absorb any of the nutrients. You can see whole pieces of brine in there poo if you look.

I think that you misunderstood me. You should feed frozen mysid shrimp of course if they will eat it. If you feed brine shrimp, it should be enriched first.

fnicklaus, i got you now, i didnt really understnad you before i guess.

...i guess this is what happens when buy sh's that you are told that will eat frozen, but forget to ask to see..
