I am going to be moving soon and this tank is going on the third floor of my house. Not sure how many people it takes to move this tank.

Also any advice as to what NOT to do when moving the tank. One person said have 4 people lift so the tank does not Flex and cause a leak. Going up the stair may not allow people on the side.

Thanks all.

I moved one last week with 2 people no problem, although there were no stairs involved. if you can get 4 people to do it that would be best but I don't know if you will all fit on the stairs together. If it is dead empty 2 people can do it.

I moved a 180 with two people, but almost left my jewels on the floor. That was one heavy move.

I moved my 135 about a month ago, and I had to go down stairs in the basement. It was not terribly difficult with 2 decent size guys, but heavy.

I think the 220 will put you to the test. If you can swing it, have 2 guys on each end. It will be a tight depending on how narrow the stairway is, but the more hands the better.

Are you planning on setting the tank up on the 3rd floor??? Have you had an engineer in to look at the structure?

My sister in law is an architect and she had given me ideas as to where it should go.

Here is the plan:

The tank will be placed in parallel with a load bearing wall about a foot away to leave some space for the external overflows. I will be removing the plywood floor to double up on the 2x6 joist and removing the sheetrock on the room below and adding a few 2x4's or 4x4's on each end of the joist. I was also told to spread the weight out as much as possible therefor the stand will be about 8-10 feet long and 3 feet wide. In addition she said it would be better to place the tank as far away from the wall as possible so the weight will be distributed more evenly between the 2 load bearing walls below.
So this is how i calculated it.
Tank filled 2800 lbs / 24 (stand Sq Footage) = 116 lbs. Thats 116 lbs of weight per square foot. Another way to look at it is 24 supermodels huddled together.

BTW the sump and other filtration equipment will not be under the tank. It will be placed next to it in the other side of a wall.

Any other architects/engineers out there with tips?

Do I have to support the first floor also or is the weight distributed wide enough at that point?

Thanks all
