How Much Fish For a 135?

How many inches of fish can I have in a 135 gal mixed soft/LPS/SPS reef with 30 gal sump? I currently have a Tunze 9010 DOC skimmer, plus Rowaphos and carbon. They would be smallish fish, such as chromises, clowns, dartfish, cardinals, & gobys.

Could I do this or is it way to much bioload:
15 Blue Green Chromis
5 Firefish
5 Bangaii Cardinals
2 Ocellaris clowns
1 Shrimp goby w/ shrimp

Be careful with your shoalers. The chromis ought to be okay, but may pick each other off (normal). Firefish are intolerant of conspecifics, and you'll probably end up with two (one that lives on each end), or three if a pair forms one end. The same will happen with the cardinals. They shoal until a pair forms, in which case the others become "invaders" and get picked off because they can't leave the new pair's territory.

When I was first starting, I was really into shoaling-type fish as well. But after looking around, I feel like my tank would have been really boring without the diversity it has/has as I stock it.

bioload wise its fine, but this is how i see it a tank needs to be very diverse, i have a 135 also and this is what i plan to do and am doing, there needs to be a few big fish and many small fish like the ocean it will give your tank good diversity, a good look, and a close simulation to the ocean. say you have 15 chromis, the clown fish, and like 6 or so other small brightly colored fish, then 3 or 4 big fish, it would look so cool to have big fish going through the schooling chromis.

Thats a great idea rob1991! OK, this is a more current idea for livestock (will probably change for sure):
15 Blue Green Chromis
2 Ocellaris Clown
1 Regal Tang
1 Yellow Tang

Those are pretty much for sure, plus maybe a few accents (maybe one of 2 of these, not all):
1 Longnose Hawk
1 Shrimp Goby w/ shrimp
6 Carrberyi Anthias
1 Genicanthus Angel
It would be really cool to have some anthias, that way I would have a group of red fish and a group of blue fish. Do you think a begginer with 6 months experience could have success with these anthias?

Carberries are a bit fragile imo, I would say dispars or ignitus would be good.

I recommend the pistol/goby combo and a Genicanthus angel. My 2c.
