how much flow is too much for xenia?

I just added my first coral to my resetup tank, a pompom xenia frag. but I now have tunze streams, and I cant tell if its too much flow...

should they be getting tossed around or not? its not direct flow, but its tunze... so everything has high flow lol. the main focus on the tank will eventually be SPS, can the xenia handle it?

As long as your not slamming them around on the rocks I would think that they would be okay. Are they retracting or full? Good Luck!!!

they are very much retracted, but I just brought them home from the fish store, where they were just shipped in. Id let them adjust there, but they'd be gone :( I gotta get there while they are taking them out of the bags if I want anything remotely good.

I got a nice 3 head frogspawn for 25$, and the pompom and a plate coral for 20 each.

I havent given the pom pom time to come out yet, its only slightly filled out.

Ive adjusted the flow from the tunze, I actually knocked them down to "6000" mode, and put them on 30-40% flow(lowest itll go); which has lessened the stirring, but with the bare bottom tank, I dont think itll cut it...

Ya the substrate tends to assist in the reduction of flow somewhat...nice grab on the corals. My wife and I just cut some xenia out of our tank this evening...colony was about 6" tall...gonna cut out some nepthea tomorrow and take it to the lfs since we cant find anyone to take it...its about 6" tall now...grows like a weed. Post some pics of your new corals when you get a chance....is your pompom red/brown star polyps?

hopefully it will be pinkish, thats what it was advertised as. but since it was all shriveled, couldnt be positive. Im hoping when I get home from work everything is out and happy.

Xenia can handle just about anything. Under high flow the hands will get really long and it won't look quite as attractive, but it will handle it.

I have xenia right under a hydor 3 and when it gets too big it will actually try to attach undernear the powerhead.

well they still arent out, thought they arent blowing all over the place now, so Ill give em some time to rebound. the plate and frogspawn arent really out either.

well they are actually out a bit more at night with just moonlights... perhaps they are still adjusting to my halides, or maybe they enjoy the super low flow of night mode on the tunze. but atleast they seem alive, and theyll adjust with time I hope.

cell phone camera FTL, makes everything blurry and green, I mean, the rock obviously is a bit green, but not THAT green.

sidenote... not the right forum, but that plate coral, they dont poop out the bottom or anything do they? bare bottom, there was nothing to keep it in place, so I stuck it on a blob of epoxy. any reason to think that could cause it harm? I dont want to epoxy its "butt" shut or something.
