how much heat can a reef take before damage occurs?

Nano hit 86 this weekend, lost a few xenia but everything else seems ok, even the sps and clams I have in there.

Digital thermometers are notoriously inaccurate, but usually consistantly so. You need to cross-check them with a high quality thermometer to have any idea of your readings are accurate.

A good way to check the accuracy is the place your probe in a cup of ice with little water in it. The thermometer should read close to 32 degrees

I usually bring my cheap walmart digital thermometer to work and compared it with our calibrated thermocouples (which is accurate to 0.2 degree celsius). Surprisingly, the walmart crap is pretty accurate, I think it was within 1/2 degree of our calibrated thermocouple. I know that could potentially be 0.7 degree off but it's better than nothing.
