i have 2 clowns, 1 goby, 2 cleaner shrimp, crabs and snails. i feed brine shrimp once every other day. i feed my corals salifert and marine plankton twice a week. is this alright?
You need to feed your clowns preferabley at least twice a day small meals and a variety of diet. Frozen brine, mysis, flakes etc... You will probably have to target feed your cleaners a few times a week if your tank is new. As for corals, all depends on what kind you have.
The brine shrimp is a good snack a couple times a week but not a staple. Try switching to frozen mysid shrimp for regular feedings. For a new tank I agree with twice a day feedings. I do once a day for now but there is algae growth and pods to suplement.
You may have to target feed your goby with an eye dropper or something to shoot food down into the rocks. Or you can get sinking pellets. Feed the clowns first and get their attention and then try getting some to your goby. You'll have to make sure he gets fed often especially in a new tank.
The key is feed small amounts often, with a good variety. You can also add vitamins and supplements such as Selcon or Garlic Extreme to help. Cyclopleeze is also good for fish and corals.
Do not overfeed your tank however. It's really easy to do.
i just fed them some mysis, its a lot smaller than brine shrimp, they eat it a lot quicker!! im still worried about over feeding. im going through another algae phase. is this from over feeding??
i've had the tank since last oct. it's looking a bit dirty at the mo coz of this algae. appologise for the lack of corals, more coming on payday. i rearranged the rocks this morning so some of the corals are closed.
Looks great I love nanos. Algae outbreaks could be from overfeeding... high nitrates... check your source of water. Do you use RO/DI water, or tap water?
Cool, sorry I thought the tank was new. Since last October should be fairly stable then... but it can be harder in smaller tanks. How often do you do water changes? How many snails and crabs do you have? That may also have something to do with the algae.
From what I can see in the photo I don't think your algae is all that bad. Looks like you are starting to get some coraline algae growing too
i change apprx 20% every 2 weeks using r.o water. i think i have 6 crabs and snails though i dont see them very often
the corraline is coming along (finally)!! i had some probs when i first set the tank up, the elbow joint on the return pipe was blocked by pastic swarf that had not been removed when it was made, took me a month to realise:mad2: . i now have 2 pumps in there and it's turning over 1700 liters p/h. there is 80 liters of water in the tank. sorry i dont use gallons, it all gets a bit
I honestly doubt your algea bloom is due to overfeeding. We all go through it, and i get them too. I can promise you mine is not from overfeeding, as I am on a STRICT feeding diet for my fish.
