How much should media tumble.....

in a fluidized reactor?

I have a Kent Phosban reactor that I am trying to use, and I am worried that I am using too much flow. If the granuals of phosban/puralock or whatever tumble to much, the just colide and break up.

I have a MJ400 (106 gph) connected right now, but not sure if this is too much.

Question is: How much tumbling is acceptable?

Any experiences from you all would be great.

Chris,

I should have shown you my phosban set up. But anyway, you just want it so it looks like it is boiling. I would say about 1/2" of the top of the media should be churning. The Little Fishies Phosban Reactors have a valve on them to control flow speed. The Kent version you will need to regulate flow with some sort of valve from the pump. You do not want it tumbling too much, otherwise the media does not have time to absorb the phosphates.

That's what I thought. Looks like I'll need to find a 1/2" ball valve for it.
