Would you say it is less or more work than taking care of a dog?

i think it is less

and you dont have to carry around a pooper scooper behind them :D. when you first start the tank its going to be alot more work than say 6 months into it.

CarmieJo what part of NC you from?

I think it depends.

I spend more time on my tanks than my Lab.

With the dog, throw some water and kibble in a bowl, pat on the head and you're done.

With tanks, there is much more to do.

I've never tested the specific gravity, temperature, or calcium level of my dog's water.

Having said that, yes you can ignore your tank for a day or two if you need to, with a dog, not so.

It's all relative.

I'm in the same boat. Weekly water changes and filter replacement type stuff about 2 hours. Waiting until all lights are out and hunting for new creatures with my flashlight can burn up hours very quickly.

As far as the dog or tank thing goes, it depends on where your heart lies. My wife and son can take care of the dog, I'll stick with the tank.
