How often do you clean your cheato?

by clean do you mean trim?

I assume southstar066 is referring to rinsing, shaking, whatever process you have to remove waste.

Dependent on growth, I get rid of about 2/3 every month or so. At minimum I give it a good dip/rinse in a bucket of tank water at this time. It really depends on how much junk you have getting in there. I would say try it every couple of weeks, and if you can't see the bottom of the bucket you're rinsing in it might be worth doing it more often.

In one sump chamber it is tumbling over about 45 times a minute and nothing gets on it....it just grows to about the size and shape of the bottom half of a 5 gallon bucket. Takes about a month. It reallys grows when I add coral supplements and iodine to the water even though I don't have a reef. There is an Odyssea 350 blowing on it to keep it spinning like a wheel.

The other chamber gets the cyano and pale yellow stuff on the top....much less healthy since there isn't circulation like the other side.

Once and a great while I clean it I dont have it tumbling either mine grows like a weed

Never. I just trim it back every once in a while.
