how often do you need to clean the glass

Pretty much as needed. I don't get crazy growth but when I can notice a large area I'll make a pass around my tank. To me it's just another part of keeping a beautiful tank. I don't find it to vs a hassle at all.

One thing about old vs news mechanisms I would say a factor might be light output vs light absorbtion.

Every 2 - 3 days for me
