How often does a RBTA moves?

I just set up a 25 gal and no corals in it yet. I was thinking about a RBTA and let it find its spot then put corals in, but afraid it will move around later on and killing other corals.

I have 3 in my display and they are fine. They are well known to move though..

from what ive read they move when they are unhappy. so a shift in water params, flow, ect could cause a bta to move.

my rbta moved from a rock to the back wall when it split. now on rbta is on the backside of the rock it was on and the other half is still on the back wall.

they move once to several times a day, sometime once to several times a week, some other times they move once to several times a month, and maybe once to several times a year, and sometime they never move at all. does that answer your question?

I've found that they move around trying out different spots at first, but once they find one they like they pretty much stay there. Adding rock work or a lot of coral could change your flow and if they don't like the change they may move on you again.

If I'm reading this right you have a brand new tank, You need to wait a while before adding a nem.

In my experience with over 10 GBTA and RBTA at once sometimes, I've found that the smaller BTA and RBTA move around a lot more and die more easily. I have a 10" RBTA that has stayed in the same spot for about a year, a 10" GBTA that no longer moves around, and a 14"-15" GBTA that I got recently. I stuck it somewhere, it moved, and it stayed. So if you want a good chance of coral survival, I would get a large BTA... so anything 8"+ is good. They move if they need more lights, less light, more flow, less flow, and they also move if you don't feed them or overfeed them.

Honesly I dont think size matters!Ive had 32 bubble tips ranging in size from 2" all the way to to 15".I dont think the smaller ones moved around more.I think that my bigger ones moved more becuse its harder to find a spot in my rock.The larger they are the larger the foot will be.And an anemone with a 8+ inch oral disk,his/her foot wont always be able to fit down into a crack thats 1/2 inches wide.Now a bubble tip with a 2+ oral disk,his/her foot will fit just fine.

But to answer your question kewlworm,if you have really good holy rock with flow crossing over the front and top of the tank( bubble tips like flow going over the top of thier oral disk IME) I think you will be able to keep one with minimal movement.

When they find a spot they like, they more than likely will stay. Mine has been in the same spot its been since the day,I bought it. I placed it on the sand bed. and an half hour later in was up on a rock. And been their since and tripled its size,in a month and a half! I notice mine likes staying in a meduim flow!

My rbta dont move at all. They just reach for the sky.
