good evening.
the thread concerning TTM mentions dosing prime on day 2. do i need to redose on day 3?

thank you

I use 15 liter plastic bucket, first TTM with a Purple Tang, second TTM with a Copper Banded Butterfly and a Picasso Clown. Just 3 days, they are fine, don't test and don't dose Prime.

Yeah the fish shouldn't be in there longer then 3 days or 72hours if you go over the 72 hrs mark you need to start over. I dosed a small amount of Prime on day 2. That is just to be safe. Some do some don't all personal reference. And be sure all equipment is completely dry for a minimum of 24 hours. To ensure all ICH has been killed.

I dose Prime on day two. Oxygenation shouldn't be a problem if you're running airstones (throw them away and use new with each transfer.)

I don't redose on day 3. I recommend testing, not sure why you wouldn't.

btw why should the airstone be discarded? why cant it be dried out then reused?

I guess if you could be sure it got thoroughly dry then stayed that way for 24 hours, since 24 hours completely dry time kills the ich...but IDK how long it would take for the stone to get completely dry. I don't think it would get dried out between tank transfers. I just play it safe and throw it out.

The ich cyst needs to dry out completely to die, and an airstone can take a LONG time to dry. I have 8 air stones on hand and use each only once for each TTM process, but will reuse them for the next process which will be several months apart.

I didn't throw out my air stones. But I did use a new one each time. Then let the ones I had used during the process dry for about a month before I reused them.

This is what I do as well and what many on here do. Prime actually works best when added to a system BEFORE ammonia begins to increase. So day 2 is the perfect day. The airstones work well for oxygenation. I throw mine away and buy a new pack of 4 for $1.49 from my LFS.

They can be re-used. Once done with them, I use a 1-5 ratio of bleach to water, soaking for a day. Then put them in some RO/DI water with Prime for a day. After that let air dry for about 2-3 weeks.

i dose prime the first day before the fish go in.

on the second day i usually do a water change and re-dose prime.

on the third day they are transferred to a new tank that is already dosed with prime.

wash. rinse. repeat.
