Full specrum - 18-24 at most.
Actinic/blue spectrum - 12-18 at most.
Because each tank/light system is different the best way to tell is using a light meter. Heat, photo period, and ballast can make a huge difference in useable light and lamp life.
from a frend in germany he said when they came out there he said they changed them every 18 but noticed that when he hit 15 months he noticed his sps or other light hungry critters not doing as well so he recommends 15 months on normal ballast if its a icecap needs tgo be done every 6 if with a fan it will allow you to get 8-12
