Once a week clean the cup.

Every 3-6 months clean the pump by disassembling it and soaking the motor and drive unit parts in 50/50 vinegar and water, be sure to remove all lime deposits.

Once a year clean the entire skimmer by running it completely submerged in 50/50 vinegar and water overnight.
