How Paranoid Should I Be Going Between QT and DT?

Hey guys,

Did a water change today on the quarantine tank.

I then cleaned up and did a few other things. I had to put Nori in the display an hour or so later.

I think between that time and finishing up with the quarantine water change I must have washed my hands 10 times with soap and hot water. Then before putting nori in the display I made sure all the soap was off and my hands were dry.

Am I being overly paranoid here? Even if there was ich or some other disease in the quarantine tank, how much precaution do you have to take before putting your hands in the display?

Also, when cleaning off stuff used in the quarantine tank, will washing well with water and letting air dry be good enough for it's next use? Will diseases die after 48-72 hours of being dry? (None of that equipment touches the DT btw)

Thanks guys... starting to feel a bit OCD here...

I'm the exact same way! :lmao:

But I think as long as you wash your hands & arms with soap, rinse/dry thoroughly... you should be OK.

Yeah just finishing up 6 weeks of hypo with probably another 4 weeks added on to that for raising and lowering salinity...

Think I'd off myself if I brought something back into the tank of my hands... probably why I'm so paranoid...

Plus now I don't think I even had ich... just some white spots that came once and never came back again (didn't have the salt/dusting look, more a hard white round callus)... of course... ALL WHITE MARKS = ICH

I am more paranoid when dealing with a QT with an active disease. I will not touch my DT until after I've taken a shower.

The million dollar ? I think no one really knows the answer to is: Can free swimmers of external parasites get "absorbed" into your skin? Or does rinsing with tap water "wash them away"?

And does anti-bacterial soap and hot water do anything to them...

I like to tell myself it does. ;) I will say that I haven't seen any diseases in my DT for many years now, and I QT A LOT of fish (mainly because I trade for corals "disease free fish" to fellow hobbyists).

Funny how you guys are more aware of the potential of transmission more so than some Texas hospitals.

this is how i'm around my qt lol:
