when it comes to chemical warfare? i am trying to figure out what the heck id causing my zoas to shrink...they aren't closing up but their skirts are getting shorter and they are getting smaller.... could it be the gsp? i have them on an island rock in a 14 gallon, but i am wondering if they are too much... i will gladly take them out if need be...

pc's.... they have been doing great until a few weeks ago....they are just looking kind of sickly....some don't but others do. The tank is a 14 gallon biocube... I run chemi-pure, carbon, and purigen.

The inhabitant list is as follows: 1 percula clown, 1 sixline wrasse, 1 fire shrimp, 1 emerald crab, i think 3 blue legged hermits, about 4 or 5 astria snails, 1 turbo snail, and a few cerith snails. I do about a 2 gallon water change weekly. I don't think it is any of the inhabitants, because polyps are not dissappearing, they just seem to be getting smaller.

Besides the zoas i have a small toadstool, the gsp, a hammer which is at the bottom of the tank and doing fine so i don't think the lighting is the problem, and i have some mushrooms. I also have one small piece of monti cap.

oh, i haven't changed the chemi pure for a while, maybe 2 months. Could that maybe be part of it? should i ditch the old bag of it until i am able to get a new one?

any ideas what it could be? i changed the carbon today and removed the chemi-pure, because i last changed it about 2 months ago or so, and i thought maybe it was leaching something beack into the water...i kind of need some advice....thanks

well first off chemi-pure last like 6 months. i have seen other tank that are just covered in gsp and zoa dont do well in them. i have followed this thread to see what other thought. i am still about 60/40 on the topic.

so, you are about 60-40 that the gsp are the problem? Wouldn't the carbon help to absorb the toxins?

I forgot to mention that i also added a couple of mangroves a while back, i can't remember whether i was having problems then or not...could they possibly have something to do with it?

depands on how may are in the tank. the one tank i was talking about is covered all over the all the LR. looks like a good place to setup a golfing range. it is a 58 gl tank with like 75 lb's of LR and two or three types of GSP. if you have one rock cover i would say no. how much gsp do you have? any picutres?

mangroves are good they pull nitrates and phosphates out. i have 4 in my sump. matter fac i just order my custom setup for a special section just for a deep sand bed and my mangroves. and a section just for my macro algea.

this first one is of the gsp...it is not very big, it covers this rock which is about 5 or so inches long...

This last one is from some pink palys... it might be hard to tell but they just kind of are looking shrively and puny... you can see the monti cap in the back is doing great, esp under the pc's...

ya i dont think there is enough gsp in there for the problems with the zoa's. however, i do see cyno or a red slim/fungies on the sec picture. i would try diping for peditors with iodine and try to brush it off with a soft tooth brush.
