how timid are firefish???

I have heard they are timid as far as most fish we keep goes, but mine will stand up to the female pink skunk clownfish. is this normal or do i just have a brave one? Its not something new as they have been tank mates for a year or more and this has been going on since the were tank mates. its not a constant thing only when the clown fish gets to close to the fire home or the fire fishes teritorry which is about 1/4 of the 75g softie mini reef. oh and its the purple firefish

To me that is mildly unusual. While Firefish are easily intimidated by other fish that does not mean they will not protect their home once it is firmly established. The bigger problem is when firefish are new to a tank and existing tank mates harass them. Then they will often hide and starve to death.

the funny thing is some days you see this firefish out in the open all day long, some days you see him only at feeding time and other days you have to use a mirror to see him behind a certain rock in the very back of the tank feeding... you might not see him at all for a day or 2 then he magicaly appears in the open on the other side of the tank. oh and the number of times i have searched overflows, sump and the area around the tank for hours looking for him and raise my head up and there he is staring at me from his spot in the display saying whats this fool doing on the floor

I am shocked. I had to sell my mated pair of pink skunks because they were way too aggressive -- they would attack my dwarf angels, and not just when the angels were near the anemone, they would actively seek out the angels.

In my experience, once clowns are sexually mature, bond, and mate, they can be holy terrors, going after ANY fish near their "spot".

And it just so happened that they claimed all of my 58 for their spot.

The guideline I have always used is a pair of clowns will claim 30 gallons of space. Some species will claim more (like Todd's did). In the ocean I have had a female clown come after me (I am NOT small) and try and take my eyes out; they are definitely not timid.
