How to Break Down a Plenum?

I'm breaking down my tank and i'm at the stage of removing the water and sand bed. Before i start is there anything to be wary of?

What are you trying to accomplish? Saving it as "Live" sand or, you just want it gone? I'm not sure their is a way to save it. As you likely have pockets of noxious nasty under the hood.
