How to calculate tank turnover rate?

Other than finding out how many gph the return pump is, are there any other factors that are used to calculate tank turnover per hour? Do I add in all the powerheads I have in the tank as well?

you add up the GPH of everything moving water in your tank then devied by your tank volume.

Example
I have a 10 galllon
Tunze 6025 660GPH
HOB filter 100GPH
Skimmer 100GPH (Rough estimate probably less but appears to be real close to the filters output.)

880 total GPH devided by 10 Gallons = 88x turnover

Im on the high side but plan to keep SPS.

That's alot of flow in a tiny 10g tank! O_o

Thanks, so mine is....

skimmer 500gph + (2) modded maxijet 1200's 2400gph + (2) maxijet 1200's 590gph + mag12 return pump 1200gph + maxijet 600 on phosban reactor 160gph = 4850/75 = 65x turnover?

Ya I know but i'm upgrading to a 60 gallon cube and didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff just to sell it in a month or two. Besides the live rock and sand don't know the diference. :D

That would be just a rough estamate as your not subtracting head loss from your external pumps but you get the idea.

Also, you wouldn't count the skimmer or phosban reactor unless they are in the main tank. If they are in the sump they do not add to the turnover rate, and the return pump you need to account for headloss and are you running it at full capacity....

there is a head loss calculator on the main page of reefcentral...

So I have a 90 gallon total water volume. I have 2 since 1200 poweheads and a 951 gph return pump. I run a manifold tho with currently a bio pellet reactor, UV sterilizer and soon to be a JBJ chiller...do u think I need a bigger return pump. Plus my tank is 2 feet tall and at the return pump tubes the water is coming ou but definitely slowly. I keep SPS pls and softies. No Arcos to or Monty. Just alien eye green birds nest, procipolla and a meteor shower as of now...
