How to catch a fish

I am considering moving a fish from my display tank into the refugium, due to behavior issues. However, as soon as I open the canopy and remove the cover, they all dart to their favor hiding spot in the rock work... not sure how i will ever be able to net one, let alone the one i am actually looking to catch (that hides as it is under normal circumstances).

Looking for some feedback on what experience has taught you, on how to accomplish this... seems a bit daunting. I am sure there are some clever ways...

Yep aquamedic trap worked for every fish I ever wanted to catch.

You need to put it in the tank for a while so they get used to it and when I feed the fish I drop the food in the trap and eventually the fish get used to it and start to go in there to feed.
Some take to it right away and others take a bit but they do.. Only issue I had is once my trigger started to camp in there as his home and chased other fish out.

I have found this to be the best approach although a little time consuming. After the fish became acclimated I could catch any fish I desired at will.

How big is your tank? The High & Dry method outlined in the link below has always worked well for me.

+1 on draining the tank if you have a big enough container. I've done this a few times and is a great method.

Yeah it can be a bit of a task, but if you want the fish out in a hurry it's definitely worth a shot. Placing a trap in the tank and waiting day after day after day just wasn't my thing.

I just put some mysis in my net and target the fish i am after. They will swim right in. Lure it as close to the surface as you can before turning up the net though. You want to get the rascal on first try.

Like you, I had to get a fish out of a 100 gallon and didn't have a large enough container.
I tried baited net and traps, but that annoying clownfish was too smart.
I had to resort to fishing after all the other methods failed, Not ideal but it sure worked.
