How to catch a flame angel

A trap does not seem to work? Just keep it in your tank and let them get used to it, keep putting food in the trap, it eventually will get brave and go in.. I have caught all my fish this way...

I caught my lemonpeel today using eggcrate.

I cut a piece about 12" long to fit across a corner of the tank then put it in the corner against the sides and bottom of the tank. Then I let it tilt back away from the corner at the top by a few inches to let space appear along the sides, keeping it in contact with the bottom. I kept baiting the corner while depriving the rest of the tank of food. It took about 12 hrs for the angel to get brave/hungry enough to go around the edge of the eggcrate but then it was simple to just pull it back upright and catch the fish.

x2 on the trap. Thats how i catch all of mine too. keep the door open so it can go inside the trap for a day or two.

I always catch my fish after the lights go out and they are out for a few hours. Clownfish are the easiest to catch like this but you can try it with the angel as long as he dosnt hide in a hard to reach spot while hes asleep

Observe your fishes swim path then stuff clear plastic fish bags in the corners of your tank or covering the exit holes around your rock work. Chase your fish around the tank a few times with the net and they will eventually go into one of the bags!

Cheers

I have used a similar technique to the one posted above to catch a damsel. I used the mesh hairnets used by food service workers and stretched them over the openings in the rocks the fish swam through, then chased the fish around until it swam into one. The nets have elastic around the opening so they are easy to mount and they become virtually invisible in the water.

+3.
Patience is key, just gonna take a little time is all. I prefer this method as it doesnt upset the fish you are persuing or any of the other tankmates for that matter.

I feed all of my fish like this and from my fingers. I can even pet my fish.

All of this makes capture for (treatment, aggression, etc.) very simple. ;)

wow, how long did it take for them to be so brave? What kind of container is that. The flame I try to catch swims around the trap and sometimes attempts to enter but backs away, I was planning to empty the tank of water to maybe catch it, not sure if it works lke this though.

Patients Patients my friend! If he is attempting to enter but backs out he will eventually go in! Just let it be do not disturb him to much and just keep feeding through the trap.... My opinion..

I made an acrylic box to use as a capture box.

Just pour food in the box everyday around the same time and put in in the water. The fish will know where the food is..... most food will float out and be consumed. Over a few days the fish will realize that the trap is harmless and means food. Most fish (i have never had one that would not enter) will become greedy and want to be the first in the box......
trust me, it works...... every-time......but not always in short time....

That said, I have had fish enter the box in less than three days......

I have had the following fish enter my traps:

Both Large and Dwarf Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Basslets (gramma, liopropoma), Clowns, Cardinals, etc.)
