how do i trade tanks if i want the new tank in the old tanks spot and i want to use the same sand from the old tank? i just bought two manderins and some new coral and i dont want to stress it out - please help!

Well, you WILl stress them outr, but how do reduce stress is what your looking for...... well, i use "Stress-Zyme" and it supposedly helps alot to reduce stress to everything, by not "chasing" the fish around, and just letting them swim into the net or box will not stress them out as much as a dearful chase for their lives, and making SURE that the temps, and all the parameters are the same in the tank that you are putting them into temp. until you can put them into the DT. like, use water right out from the tank if you can

Every time I have switched tanks it has been with both tanks having an established system. Just like when you bring home a new fish the LFS has an established system and yours at home is too.
The good part is you just purchased the maderin and you can quarentine them in a hospital tank till the new tank gets settled. DO NOT USE COOPER on them. Manderins have a pertective slime coat. The Q tank is to make sure they do not develop a secondary bacterial infection that can affect your other fish.
Also if you did not buy a mated pair you may have a bigger problem. If you find you do not have a pair consult with the LFS you purchased them at.

Mandarins should not be in a new system, especially two. They need a very established large tank with plenty of LR and preferably an attached refugium. Even if they pick at some mysis, it will not be enough to sustain them, and they can starve a slow death.:( They need a steady supply of copepods to be healthy. Please take them back. Then moving the tank will be easy, just set up a rubbermaid and put the water from the old tank & LR in it first. Have plenty of change water available. Place a heater & powerhead in the tub, along w/ any fish..and inverts. It is easiest to get fish out when the tank is nearly empty. Then do the tank move. Wait for it to settle{you may experience a cycle since you are upsetting the substrate} Do not use any stresszyme on the mandarins. They have a toxic & thick protective slime that will protect them. Please, at least consider taking them somewhere...even if it is temporary.;)

i used some of these when i moved tanks. http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/iid/3614/cid/1068 i bought a bunch different sizes, put them all inside a large rubbermaid tub, and filled it with old tank saltwater/heater/and ph. i was able to keep them in there a little over an hour without any problems. worked out well-i put the fish/corals in seperate containers.

you are welcome to borrow them if you want. i can see exactly which ones i have when i get home. i think i've got a few of each size. you will have to come to my house to get them though........my wife wrecked my car last week. :(

good luck w/the mandarins. they may do ok if this an old system with lots of live rock, or if they are eating frozen(doubtful). any decent lfs would take them back. imo, a good store would have never sold them to you if your setup wasn't adequate. i would think with mandarins, they would try to find out about your system first. are these mandarins in your 90 gal?

waterfaller - they are in a established system with a refug. trust me i have the copods - plus i have a constant supply of more from 4 other tanks- thanks for the concern= thank everyone for the help - they are going into a 90 - why does everyone think my setup isnt old? - haha - but anyways - if anyone has any different ideas please keep them coming - iam doing the move probably saturday or sunday. i have another 55 i could stick the lr and fish into and i could even hook up my refug - then move sand to 90 then move rock and fish after the sand settels. sound good to everyone? it uses what you all are saying right?

Sounds great!
Sorry to soapbox on you...a touchy subject for me.;) Maybe my post will help someone else..LOL.:D Good luck with your move.

Frozen brine...now there's a healthy diet. I would'nt take any advice from someone who said it's ok to keep a yellow tang in a 24 gal. tank..no matter how small it is.:(

"lifesworksataol" - If your setting up the 90 with the sand that you got from me, you will have to let the tank cycle prior to adding anything!!!

The sand was from a running system, however if you haven't set it up yet, that sand has been in buckets for 5 days or so, so were talking major die off!!!

Again, I don't know what your setting up and what your setting it up with, I just don't want you to kill any livestock!!!

i put the sand in right away - i was up till 5 in the morning that night putting that sand in - the things i do for my tanks - i would let all that good stuff go to waste - you spent a long time building up that great sand

i only wish i could have kept all that live growth on the back of the tank going - but who knew- i should have scrapped it off and dumped it into my fug.

That's good! I would still have the water tested prior to adding any livestock to it to make sure. You will still probably get a mini cycle at the least.
