I am new to this great hobby and am at my first 6 month aquarium cleaning stage. I have a Red Sea Max S-650 and have successfully (vinegar) cleaned my pumps and skimmer. But I have a conundrum ( I hardly ever get to use that word
. The bottom grilles in the back wall of the aquarium that supply water to the back chamber for the circulating pumps are quite low on the wall. I don't have enough room to get behind the aquarium with a step stool to be able to extend my arm down into the back chamber to unscrew them (they unscrew backwards into the chamber, not outwards into the aquarium) and I can't reach from the sides or front either. But the grilles really need a serious cleaning.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to seriously clean these grilles (calcium buildup + gunk), aside from just scrubbing them? I can drop the water level down below the grilles for a short time but don't want to use some caustic solution that will drip into the remaining aquarium water while the grilles are in place.
Thank you and please let me know if my post is too wordy for this forum.
