How to clean overflow with tank running?

I need to clean my overflow, algae has covered the intake slots. I tried wiping or pulling it off but that doesn't work.. how do I get this clean? Thanks!

I use a drill bit between my fingers when needed.

Stiff toothbrush; even an exacto knife carefully going at it has worked for me.

Shut down the return pumps put a filter sock on your drain line or run the drain into a bucket remove the standpipe and use a bottle brush or like a brush to scrub the overflow chamber then just rinse it all down into the sock or bucket.
