How do you combine these two treatments to create a super treatment if their dosage directions contradict each other?

How do you mean they contradict each other? Which brands are you using? I use the powders from NFP and they are easy to combine. Both require retreatment every 24 hours with a 25% water change beforehand.

KanaPlex:

Day 1: Use recommended dosage
Day 3: Repeat recommended dosage
Day 5: Repeat recommended dosage
DONE

Furan-2:

Day 1: Use recommended dosage
Day 2: Use recommended dosage
Day 3: 25% Water change and use recommended dosage
Day 4: Use recommended dosage
Day 5: 25% Water change
DONE

The contradiction is in the water changes required for Furan. Wouldnt that affect the dosage and concentration of KanaPlex?

Interesting. The kanamycin powder from NFP has the same dosing intructions as their nitrofurazone (treat daily following a 25% water change). Maybe contact Seachem to see what they say - their support is pretty responsive.

Oh, and if you do contact Seachem, report back here please. I have just received my Furan-2 and Kanaplex.

Just spoke to their customer support and a lovely helpful lady answered me. In summary:

1- Seachem cannot guarantee whether mixing KanaPlex with Furan-2 will affect the effectiveness of either medications, hence they don't recommended it since they do not control what goes into Furan-2. However, an alternative is to use KanaPlex orally, this should guarantee the effectiveness of both medications.

2- If you are still going to combine both medications directly into the water, then they recommend doing the 25% water change, i.e. days 3 and 5, right before dosing KanaPlex. A water change before dosing KanaPlex will not affect the treatment.

Based on the above, an effective treatment of nitrofurazone (Furan-2) and kanamycin (Kanaplex) would look like:

KanaPlex/Furan-2:

Day 1: Use recommended dosage for both KanaPlex & Furan-2
Day 2: Use recommended dosage for Furan-2 only
Day 3: 25% Water change and use recommended dosage for both KanaPlex & Furan-2
Day 4: Use recommended dosage for Furan-2 only
Day 5: 25% Water change and use recommended dosage for both KanaPlex & Furan-2
DONE

IME; You usually have to dose antibiotics for 10 consecutive days to be sure you've got the infection knocked out.

I thought with antibiotics you need to be very precise in following the dosage recommendation. Are you saying it is okay and recommended to repeat the treatment above twice?

Thanks! I've saved the note.

Yes, so long as you keep up with the recommended water changes.

The main two issues I've found with dosing antibiotics are: a) Appetite suppression b) Decreased available oxygen in the water.
