How to create a vortex?

I am wanting to have the ability to create a vortex, an underwater tornado, in my tank.

The tank is a standard AGA 180.

Currently I have 2 Tunze streams (a 6200 and a 6100) with a multi controller to use to accomplish this if possible.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to make it happen?
Thanks,
Sean

I have a Tunze Turbelle pump on a controller and I get vortexs - I have it in the back corner with the nozzle shooting the water diagonally across to just off the middle of the front pane. Just beyond that, I get vortexs in the sand.

Sounds promising.
I am wanting to create a vortex about 2 feet in circumference.
Any thoughts on how to do this?

Thanks,
Sean

OK... I need a 9.9 Evenrude, some aluminum foil, a toliet paper roll, and some 30 weight ball bearings.......

It's all ball bearings these days.....

I think your best bet is to try a corner to corner flow pattern and it may happen where the flow of the two pumps cross. The other possibility is to try a triangle where you have one blowing from one side to the other at the front and then you have one in the front blowing to the back and one a few feet over at the opposite angle blowing back to front.

I don't think it will be possible to create that large a vortex in that tank. A two foot vortex will need a lot of space under it to displace the water. Maybe if you put a drain pulling out from the center bottom of the tank...

I just gotta ask...what the heck do you want this for?

I am thinking it would be a good, and quite awesome, way to get detrius in suspension.

This is something that would be implemented to clean the tank and not on a permanent basis.

I've actually succeeded in creating one.
tunze 6000 in one corner and a maxijet 1200 in the other corner, both aimed at the front of the tank upwards.
It was pretty cool, but too many air bubbles, so I gave it up.
