Hi I have a clam (I think it is Crocea Clam but not sure will be happy if you can id it) and I want to remove it from its rock (just sold it and don't know if the person wants the rock too, if it was me I would keep it attached). Is there an easy way to remove the rock without harming the clam. Thanks

I have heard you can cut the things that attach the clam to the rock without harming the clam. I hope someone with more clam experience will speak up.

Basically you would cut away the byssal threads as close to the rock as possible. You don't want to tear it away or tug at the threads they are connected to the organs of the clam. You can seriously injure the clam buy pulling it of the rock. Good luck and I would use a scalpel for the procedure.

I am not an expert by any means, but I have gently pulled small clams off of rocks until their foot gave, and they lived fine, but if yours is bigger, then i would definitely cut it if you can get to it

Thanks for all the help, I was trying to cut it so I tilt it gently and it let go. I think it was not too happy on that rock. Thanks again for all that helped.
