how to determine lighting needs?

Ok I just received an anemone and was told it was a long tentacle anemone. Did some researching and found ideas that contradicted each other.

On a thread and some sites that sell anemone say they require LOTS of light. On other sites they claim these long tentacles anemones have moderate lighting needs. And finally I came across the last concept that we need to use the color to determine if they need strong lighting needs.

Can anyone please help me? Its green in color and the tip is white or cream in color.

what size tank is it in?

id give it lots of light, either from vho, t-5s, or MHs. depending on what will work best for your tank.

MH- would probably be best if the tank is 21" or deeper.

t-5s- work for 20" or less, some people use them on deeper tanks i havent used them on a deep tank yet so i dont know how well they work

vhos- are pretty limited on depth penetration id say 14" max.

I've got a 40 breeder which is about 16" high I believe. what does it mean if the tips seemed to be turning white?

did they start turning white after you got it or before? what lighting did it come from?

could be some slight bleaching due to light changes, just keep an eye on it make sure it doesnt get worse.

with a 40g breeder you could do T5HOs(3-4 bulbs) or MH those would be good options.

well it was in my friends tank like that when I took it from him. don't know what it actually looked like when he got it. but not every tenticle is bleached. does this help? i've got aquatinics tx5 as a light source.

thanks for your help.

It is not unusual for LTA to naturally have white or light tipped tentacles. If the base of the tentacles are brownish green, you are in good shape. If they are transparent fluorescent green, then it is bleached and you will have a more difficult time.

If you have 4 x T5 bulbs in your aquatinics fixture, you have enough light. It would be a lot if you were used to keeping a fish only tank. It would be moderate if you were used to keeping SPS.

the aquatinics have 5 bulbs. well the base of the tenticles is brownish green in his tank and when it went into mine it started to flourese which looked awesome.
