How to disinfect QT

I am sad to say i lost my flame angel after 1 wk in QT. he arrived with a few spots o ich (looked like salt) which went away with freshwater dip. I kept him in hypo @1.009 & dosed prazi daily. Over night he went from apparently normal to severe distress with what appeared to be ?brook? Sp all over.

Now i have drained the QT bUt would like to use the tank again for QT. I need to know the best way to make sure i disinfect the tank.

1 part bleach 9 parts water in a spray bottle works well, you just have to be sure to rinse really, really well. Vinegar also kills a lot. A lot of diseases die off once they dry out, as well.

For future reference, FW dips do nothing for ich. The white spots are not the actual parasite, which is buried well under the skin. Why so much Prazi-Pro? Daily dosing could be a problem, although PP is a fairly mild med, you still need to follow the directions and PP does nothing for ich. If this was brooklynella, that's very tough stuff to cure. BTW, nice to see someone from Biloxi; I left the Gulf coast after Katrina.

My bad. It was paraguard not PP. it does recommend daily dosing. I also used hypo. I know FW dip doesnt cure ich. i am pretty sure it was och he fish displayed on arrival, but believe brook developed. Whatever it was that killed the fish kill him rapidly. He was fine, then dead 8 hours later. i have 2 QT tanks. I have a mimic tang in the other. Both are hypo at 1.009 and i dose then the se with paraguard. I test ammonia every 2 days and use ammonia alerts in tank. I use ATO W/ RO/DI. i perform water 75% water changes for any spikes in ammonia and run carbon. It sucks the fish died but the QT served its purpose and kept the disease out of my DT. Unfortunately i couldnt save the fish

Bleach solution and let the tank sit dry for a couple days is what i would do. I would also be sure to hit everything that was in the tank with the same treatment. Same treatment for filter and discard all filter media. not sure which filter you use on your QT but throw a fresh sponge in your DT sump and get it ready for the next round. Aquaclear's work great for this as the sponges are cheap and readily available (I have 3 Aqua Clear sponges in my sump right now)

Sucks to loose fish. I lost a couple of dwarf angels in QT to a very fast acting and devastating disease. Death was quick and harsh. Eating and swimming around fine one day not eating the next day but still swimming around ok and dead on day three. Still not sure what it was (velvet I think). VERY happy i kept whatever it was out of my DT. :)
