i am moving into a new home and turning my 15gal tank(nano reef) into a 50 gal. i love my 15 gal and want (along with my family) to turn it into a sea horse tank. i have about 3 months and can wait longer before i can set it up so i will research. i woul dhow ever like to hear for any one who can make suggestions on what i should be looking at, what kind sand bed live rock ect. i look forward to everyones help.

IMHO you should go to the selling forum, outline your 15g setup, and use the money to buy a seahorse tank.

The min. I recommend for an adult seahorse is 29g, although some do like the 25's.

I would recommend a shallow sand bed, 1 lbs of fully cured LR per gallon of water. I am partial to the tonga rock because it is pretty and doubles as a hitch.

YOu want to keep the flow of the tank low. Turning over 3x to 5x an hour.

A good filter is a good filter, and is always a plus.

UV's are nice, and I love mine. i'd get one if possible, but they are not rquired.

I would also run the tank without a protien skimmer unless you are going to get a tank with a sump and then a protien skimmer is optional.

Good Luck.

actually, you could get a pair of capinses, (sp?) IF you also get a chiller. Which, you probably don't want to... they get a little spendy.

otherwise, I'd say no to a 15 gallon too. just too constricting for seahorses. I wouldn't limit the size to 29 gallons (I'd be at around 25 for the minimum for a pair or trio) but, otherwise, I agree.

ok, i will be happy to make this into a 30 gal or bigger tank. it doesn't sound to pricey either with you not needing to run a skimmer just a nice filter. what is the reason for such a shallow sand bed? would it hurt or help to have a deeper bed? what if any other inverts coul dbe kept with them?
